Holy week in Buenos Aires

If there was a prize for the days with a great number of travelling, undoubtedly that date would be Holy Week. It is very simple: different from the summer holidays, this week is not related to the seasons or climate and takes place at the same time in the northern and southern hemisphere. Maybe, for that reason, in Uruguay such days are known simply as the Tourism Week.
All the places change their habitual appearances: they are empty of their inhabitants and, at the same time, full of tourists. Some of them are specialized in religious tourism; at national level, the most frequented places are Luján and Tandil, but Buenos Aires does not remain behind. All the churches get ready for Easter with special activities, such as via crucis, concerts of religious music and guided tours.
The city, then, will be different next Easter. In addition to the important number of religious proposals, there is an intense schedule of cultural activities which characterizes the city. Moreover, this is one of the best seasons to visit Buenos Aires, free of hot summer days but without the rigours of the winter yet. If some porteño decides to spend Easter as a tourist, he will not be disappointed.
This year, the longest weekend has a bonus track due to the holiday of March 24th , the “Día de la Memoria” (Memory Day) which was included in the calendar as homage to the victims of persecution and torture by the last dictatorship. Thus, there will be five free days. Many people are negotiating to get days off on 17, 18 and 19 of March in order to enjoy a 10-day holiday.
If you are porteño, do you like spending Holy Week in Buenos Aires? Why?
If you are a tourist, do you like travelling on those days? Which are your expectations of such week?
