A women’s neighbourhood

The International Women’s Day –celebrated since the beginnings of the XX century– was born as a political date, a statement on the equality of sexes and a defence of women’s rights. With time, in many places the original meaning was lost and March the 8th became more of a romantic occasion.
In Buenos Aires there is a zone that pays homage to the women. In the city youngest neighbourhood –Puerto Madero, urbanized in the 1990s– the streets have names of women who participated in Argentina’s history: Alicia Moreau de Justo, Macacha Güemes, Victoria Ocampo, Azucena Villaflor, etc.
In Puerto Madero circuit of the Mobile Guide Audio you can learn about the lives of some of this women, like the sculptor from Tucumán Lola Mora, author of one of the most beautiful fountains of the city, and you can also listen to the voices of, among others, the comedian Niní Marshall and politician Alicia Moreau de Justo.
