Buenos Aires in winter

There are those who state that winter is the best time of the year to visit Buenos Aires. They may be fans of chocolate con churros (hot chocolate and churros), a classic porteño treat. One of the most traditional chocolates of the city is served at La Giralda (Av. Corrientes 1453), in the bookshops and movie theaters area. Another famous hot chocolate is that of Café Tortoni’s (Av. de Mayo 825), a place declared Cultural Site by the government of Buenos Aires that functions in a huge art nouveau room. Its cellar has been visited by important personalities of tango and literature, like Carlos Gardel, Federico García Lorca and Luigi Pirandello.
Some prefer winter so the weather won’t distract them from their main goal: to drink up to the last drop of Buenos Aires’ cultural life. Usually, the juiciest time of year regarding programs at theaters and museums is winter. When the cold makes you ask for cozy closed rooms, the city has an offer for every day of the week.
Winter is also good to enjoy the city’s gastronomic goods while the guilt is hidden. Asado, locro, puchero* and pastas are tastier when the mercury in thermometer goes down. Shopping addicts know this is a good time for them: winter clothes are still in the shop windows, but sale season approaches. Plus, there are less people in the streets.
Finally, some love to walk with a vapor cloud in front of their mouths and to look at the rain from a café’s table. They have time until September 21st, give or take a day or two.
What do you like best of Buenos Aires in winter?

My favorite thing about winter in Buenos Aires is having a submarino with a tostada de jamon y queso, in my neighborhood cafe
Chocolate con churros is a bit too ‘heavy’ for me, despite my sweet tooth…
Nice new blog!

I also like having hot chocolate with churros at Cafe Tortoni. Some tourists have been commenting that the place needs a little make over though. If anyone from Cafe Tortoni is reading this they don´t mean that it should be torn down just maybe fixed up a little. I myself do like the old world charm of the place.
I also love grilling food in the winter. I am originally from Chicago so grilling in the winter was not really an option back home.

I love B.A in winter, but the season I like the city most is in Spring.
I first came to this huge city in 2001 for business and this will be the third time. I really love the way Argentina treats the minorities, and the gay tourism !
Regards,
John

Buenos Aires is a great city. There are many places to visit. Í was born there but I´m presently living in Spain for business. If I was there right now, I would go to Cafe Tortoni or “Caminito” in La Boca. I really miss Buenos Aires.
Nice blog!

Also great to have “milanesas” and shop handcraft around Palermo SoHo on a sunny afternoon.
I like Buenos Aires, and I prefer going on winter and not on the summer time.
Heat + Humidity kills me.
