I wanted to answer the question ´If you had to tell a friend how Buenos Aires is, what would you say to him?´

I think Buenos Aires is a wonderful city. I have just returned to England after spending 3 months living there, learning Spanish, drinking Mate and soaking up the unique atmosphere and I can´t wait to go back!

If you are coming to Buenos Aires I reccomend you do two things.

1. LEARN Spanish - even if it is just a few phrases or words, it will help you so much and let you experience so much more of what Buenos Aires has to offer. I actually did a two week course when I first got there at a school called ViaSpanish ( http://www.viaspanish.com ) and I loved it - it helped me improve Spanish and I met a lot of other people in the same situation as me.

2. Do not stay in the centre! I recommend staying in Palermo Viejo - I stayed here for 6 weeks and I loved it. Great restaurants, bars, a huge park, lots of young people and very safe. There are lots of cheap but cool little hotels or you can use craigslist.com to find a short term flat rental.

I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did!

I first came to BsAs in 1997 from Los Angeles to dance tango on vacation. I kept returning once a year, until 2004 when I moved here. A year later I met and fell in love with Ruben Aybar, and we became dancing and teaching partners as well as in life. We finished #15 in the Campeonato Metropolitano de Tango 2006, and I was the only foreigner to make it past the semifinals. Now I have a tango/expat blog, tangocherie--http://tangocherie.blogspot.com/. Ruben and I are pleased to meet many foreign people who come here to dance. This month, the tango magazine, Diostango, wrote an article on us--Ruben y Cherie: Puro Tango.

Pizza slices at Guerrin in Av Corrientes can justify a trip to the city. THose blocks around Obelisco are Buenos Aires center in my view.

Also great to have "milanesas" and shop handcraft around Palermo SoHo on a sunny afternoon.
I like Buenos Aires, and I prefer going on winter and not on the summer time.
Heat + Humidity kills me.
